Jersey Momma Review of Dreamin' Wild (No Spoilers)
I'm the queen of forgotten dreams. I have ideas and plans and stories hidden away in my closets and beneath my bed, and there's a part of me that believes those dreams can still come true, no matter what age I am. Dreamin' Wild is proof that dreams can come true when you least expect them (even when you think they're buried and lost). But at the same time, dreams are complicated, and having them come true sometimes comes with a price. This movie is for anyone who had a dream and tucked it away, thinking it was forgotten (especially you musicians out there). But the film is also about family and the support we get from our inner circle. Life may get in the way of our dreams, but the universe works in mysterious ways and sometimes gives us our "moment" exactly when we need it (or maybe even when we don't want it). Beau Bridges, Casey Affleck and Walton Goggins give outstanding performances. Casey Affleck particularly touched my heart - I almost felt like he was the real Donnie Emerson, especially when he flashed back to his forgotten dreams and memories of playing music as a kid. The two boys who played the Emerson brothers as kids (Noah Jupe and Jack Dylan Grazer) were SO talented. For a while I forgot I was watching actors at all- they seemed so real, and played their parts with such emotion.
It's amazing to think that the Emerson boys (at 16 years old) crafted such progressive music out on a farm in the middle of nowhere, by themselves. It's like they were ahead of their time and it took 30 years for the world to catch up to them. I just loved this movie. Go watch it, and then get out there and bring your dreams back to life again. That's my plan.
