Nestled in the corner of the once great Liberty Village Outlets in Flemington, New Jersey, sits an amazing technological wonder called Drone Zone. DroneZone is New Jersey’s first indoor drone racing facility, and they're even opening an outdoor area in Washington, New Jersey, too. Kids and adults can visit Drone Zone NJ to race, repair, build, and compete with drones. There are open fly times, events, races, camps, classes, party space, and more! Read on because you’re going to want to learn more about this place, trust me. There's also a quick video in the post if you don't have time to read.
Disclosure: The kind folks at Drone Zone invited me to visit and experience some open flying time in order to bring you this honest review. But what do I always say? I would never recommend a place to you unless I totally loved it myself. And this one rocked!!

What is a Drone?
First let me tell you a little bit about drones. According to the wise and wonderful internet, "a drone is a flying robot that can be remotely controlled or fly autonomously through software-controlled flight plans in their embedded systems, working in conjunction with onboard sensors and GPS." They really are the wave of the future. Drones can be used in our military, for deliveries, entertainment and concerts/shows (did you see them make an appearance at the Super Bowl?). Lately I've seen an influx of drone video footage for weddings, public events, open houses, land surveys, restaurant debuts, (Hersheypark had one fly through The Chocolatier before it opened) and more. The potential for them in our world is huge, and careers are built around flying them. Learning to fly a drone (or build and repair one) is a skill that will become important for our children as they grow older. So Drone Zone NJ isn’t just a fun place to be, it’s also a place to learn an important skill that can be put to good use in real life.
Where is Drone Zone NJ Located?
DroneZone NJ is located in the Liberty Village Outlets in Flemington, New Jersey. Liberty Village used to be an amazing spot for shopping. Many stores have left and there are many noticeable vacancies, but there are still stores open for business at Liberty Village, and Drone Zone NJ is one of them. Liberty Village was recently purchased by a new owner so I am hoping they will come in and spruce this place up. It would be great to see it return to the fun venue that it once was. But I digress. My point is that there are still shops within Liberty Village that are open and running. So don’t give up on them!
What Can I Do at Drone Zone NJ?
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when we visited DroneZone NJ. But when we opened the door we all gasped. We were totally amazed! We were greeted with a modernized facility of glowing neon lights, music, and an overall fun atmosphere. There were tables and TVs to watch drone races, a repair center and parts shop, an area for camps and classes, and of course the amazing track for the drones to fly in (there were also some snacks, candy and drinks if you needed them). The drone track consisted of tunnels, hoops, tubes, obstacles and tons of colored lights! It's awe-inspiring.

We met the owner Diane, her son Jack, and their team member Clay, and they were all personable, knowledgable, and fun to talk to. Jack was an especially patient and attentive instructor as he showed us the ropes of drone flying. We tried out an hour of free flying time, and my son caught the hang of it pretty quickly. Don't worry if you don't own a drone- you can rent one here and they help you get everything set up. You don't need to know anything about drones to try this. Go on in and give it a shot- try out the open track time and see what you think. Got bored teens and tweens at home? TAKE THEM HERE!! All ages welcome, but drone flying is recommended for ages 12 and up.
Drone Camp and Drone Builds
Drone Zone NJ offers amazing educational Drone Camps and Builds (and slots fill up quickly, so get in there while you can). Camps are typically three days, and campers learn to build, configure and fly a drone. You can read more about Drone Camp and exactly what it entails here. Birthday Parties and Racing Events
Drone Zone NJ offers birthday party packages and I was so thrilled to see this because it's especially a challenge to find a way to celebrate a tween/teen birthday these days. A Final Word About Drone Zone NJ from The Jersey Momma
It is always a pleasure to visit local businesses and meet township residents who really love what they do and put their all into their businesses. As a community we really should make an effort to support small business and business owners who try so hard to provide the public with something special and meaningful. Not only was Drone Zone NJ an awesome place, but the owners built this business based on their son's hobby and passion, and I absolutely love that. Diane, Jack and Clay were great people, and I enjoyed talking to them and learning about drone flying. Their enthusiasm for drones rubs off on those who visit, I assure you. Everyone in my family walked out of Drone Zone saying, "I can’t wait to go back!" And that, my friends, is what it's all about.
