New Jersey SEA LIFE ® Aquarium, located within American Dream in East Rutherford, N.J, reached a new construction milestone today with the filling of its water tanks with nearly 250,000 gallons of water and announced it will officially open to the public this summer!
With the water filling comes the first look at the ‘City Under the Sea’ theming in the grand ocean tank, which features a 13-foot-tall replica of the Empire ‘Skate’ Building, the famous Manhattan hotel, the “Whaledorf” Astoria and more iconic buildings. The aquarium's largest tank will be home to various species of sharks and more exciting sea creatures.
Camille DePascale, General Manager of New Jersey SEA LIFE Aquarium and Rich Weddle, New Jersey SEA LIFE Aquarium’s Curator commenced the water fill with a ceremonial bucket pour into the grand ocean tank.
“The water fill is an exciting milestone for us because it takes us one step closer to opening day and gives a sneak peek into this one-of-a-kind SEA LIFE location with its ‘City Under the Sea’ theming,” said DePascale. “We can’t wait to entertain and educate our guests about the ocean, its inhabitants and future preservation.”
As the 10th SEA LIFE in the United States and the first in the Northeast, the 25,000-square-foot New Jersey location will have 12 different exhibits with more than 3,000 creatures. Once completely filled, the tanks will undergo different culturing and filtration processes to uphold the highest water quality. Unique in the footprint, New Jersey SEA LIFE Aquarium’s diverse tanks will support salt, fresh and warm water creatures and feature approximately 75-100 different species of fish and invertebrates from local and international waters.
Additionally, LEGOLAND® Discovery Center New Jersey, also located within American Dream (and a Merlin Entertainments Limited attraction) and beside the New Jersey SEA LIFE Aquarium, will officially open this spring.
