About World Turtle Day
Here's some info directly from the World Turtle Day website: "American Tortoise Rescue, a nonprofit organization established in 1990 for the protection of all species of tortoise and turtle, is sponsoring its 18th annual World Turtle Day® on May 23rd. The day was created as an annual observance to help people celebrate and protect turtles and tortoises and their disappearing habitats around the world."
"American Turtle Rescue created and launched World Turtle Day to increase respect for and knowledge of one of the world’s oldest creatures. Now observed around the globe, turtle and tortoise lovers are taking “shellfies” and holding “shellebrations” in the U.S., Canada, Pakistan, Borneo, India, Australia, the UK, Greece, and many other countries."
It's time to join the fun, right?

Kellytoy and Squishmallows Show Support for World Turtle Day
When I visited the Kellytoy booth at Toy Fair New York (you can read about that here), they said that. that their adorable Squishmallows Henry the Turtle helps to play a part in spreading the word about World Turtle Day. Kellytoy CEO Jonathan Kelly says, “Kellytoy wants to show our support for American Turtle Rescue, which originated World Turtle Day back in 2000. Let’s help call more attention to the increasingly threatened plight of these magnificent creatures that have been around since the days of dinosaurs some 200 million years ago. And, of course, what better spokesman could we have than our own eloquent, Henry the Turtle?” So share some pics of your Henry celebrating his special day on social media, and be sure to tag @WorldTurtleDay!
In case you don't know about Squishmallows, each one is as soft as a cloud and comes with their own story. According to his Squishmallows tag, Henry "is known by all of the Squishmallows for his fantastic voice and is a famous sports announcer. He regularly provides commentary on basketball, football and baseball games. His favorite sport is volleyball."
