Spring is one of my favorite seasons because that's when I usually take my annual trip to the Javits Center for The New York International Auto Show. The show was postponed in 2020 but they hope to return this year (better than ever) in August of 2021. Fingers crossed! For now, here are some flashback photos to my last trip to the show. And read on for more info about 2021's show.
Disclosure: I attended a 2019 press event courtesy of A Girls Guide to Cars, Toyota, and the New York International Auto Show, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
2019: I just returned from a fun evening at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS for short) for Girls Night Out with A Girls Guide to Cars. I used to attend the auto show every year with my dad when I was a little girl, so visiting the show is very special to me. It never fails to disappoint! You don't need to be a car enthusiast to enjoy it, either. Read on to see some highlights of the auto show, and enter to win 4 tickets of your own, courtesy of A Girls Guide to Cars! The New York International Auto Show makes a great day trip, and is just a quick ride from New Jersey on NY Waterway's ferry!
Highlights from the 2019 New York International Auto Show
JEEP and Camp JEEP Ride & Drive
Not only is it impressive to see the awesome new JEEP Gladiator, they have a fun outdoor space called Camp JEEP Ride and Drive going on throughout the show (outside, at the front of the Javits Center). Find out more info here.
LEGO Silverado from Chevrolet
It's not every day that you get to see an entire Chevrolet Silverado made entirely out of LEGO bricks! Make something special of your own at the LEGO Silverado building station, too.
Subaru and the National Park Foundation
Subaru has the most amazing display at New York International Auto Show. They built what looked like an actual wilderness lodge in conjunction with the National Park Foundation. The "forest" had a simulated leafy floor, a make-believe fire pit, chirping bird sounds, and plenty of foliage. It came complete with a replicated 'geyser' that revealed their 2020 Outback, too! It was a sight to see!
And here I am, catching some rays at Subaru (not really...).
Have you ever heard of Rivian? Well, you should. Their electric truck and SUV were a huge hit during A Girls Night Out. The Rivian story is pretty impressive, and their R1S is a 7-passenger SUV with up to 400+ miles in electric range. It also has a wading depth of 1-meter, lockable storage bins that can fit the bulkiest of gear, and the performance and precise control of quad-motor AWD. FOR REAL!!!! Go check them out!!
Concept Cars of the Future
I always loved seeing concept cars at NYIAS. It was one of my favorite things about attending the show as a kid, just to see the amazing possible cars of the future. Don't miss the Genesis Mint and the Kia Habaniro, which I joked would be perfect for the school pick up line: "Jump in, kid!"
How about the Nissan Altima AWD for those tough snow storms?
And Toyota's fun futuristic concepts are always incredible to see.
Dream Cars and Car Shopping
It's fun just to sit in the car of your dreams and pretend you own it. Everything is so sparkly and colorful- it's exciting to see some of these cars up close and to see what it feels like behind the wheel! And this is one of the best places to actually shop for a car. Check out this post from A Girl's Guide to Cars to see why NYIAS is the best place to car shop.

There is so much more to see at the show, and it makes a great day trip! Hop on the NY Waterway Ferry from Weehawken and it's just a quick trip across the river to the Javits Center. NY Waterway has package deals for tickets/rides, so check it out. We even had a bite to eat before the show at the fabulous House of 'Que, which is adjacent to the Port Imperial Ferry Terminal (they have a kids' menu, too). Highly recommend!!!
New York International Auto Show 2021
According to Mark Scheinberg, President of the New York Auto Show, having the show in August 2021 "gives us the ability to host the event in the newly expanded Javits Center. The larger convention center provides an additional 100,000 sq. ft. of continuous exhibit space on the main show floor."
The expansion also boasts a 53,000 square-foot special event space that will be the largest of its kind in the Northeast. The NYIAS will feature an expanded EV Exhibit on level one with an 110,000 square foot EV test track and so much more.
